Thank the Democrats Part 2
A Statement from the Philadelphia Republican Party

Philadelphia, PA, May 14, 2014:  Yesterday, Republican City Committee responded to an article by Will Bunch of the Daily News where he listed Philadelphia as the “poorest big city in America”.

The response accurately pointed out that of Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Washington, only Philadelphia has lost jobs, 25%, since 1970 and the other cities have gained over 15%. Thus, the Democrats running Philadelphia have been failing for decades.

Will Bunch did respond to this point and proceeded to supply contradictory retorts to absolve local Philadelphia Democrats from any policy failures.

First, he says “Look, we all know why jobs have grown in Washington (during both Democratic and Republican presidencies) and as for the economic success of Boston....well, that is simply one of America's most liberal cities…”

Next, he then says “Besides, most experts will tell you that federal policy tends to trump municipal policy, anyway.”

So which is it?  Did Boston have positive job growth because it is “more liberal” or because of federal policies? If it is the former, is Bunch implying Philadelphia’s surrounding counties are actually more liberal than Philadelphia since they have had much better job growth? If the latter, then it gets back to the original question of why has Philadelphia’s job market shrunk when others have grown?

It seems pretty obvious the problem stems from the policies that come out of Philadelphia's City Hall.
